Genitourinary Cancer Unit
The IOB Genitourinary Cancer Unit treats patients diagnosed with tumours affecting the male reproductive system, and also those affecting the urinary tract of both sexes, including prostate, testicular, bladder, kidney and other cancers and less frequent tumours such as cancer of the adrenal gland and cancer of the penis.
Most patients who come to the unit have been previously diagnosed by a urologist, who refers them to IOB to be seen by a team specialised in the treatment of genitourinary cancers. Likewise, like other IOB units, the Genitourinary Cancer Unit offers a second opinion service to patients who are treated by specialists from other centres.
Patients treated at the Genitourinary Cancer Unit are treated by a multidisciplinary team consisting of oncologists, urologists, surgeons, radiotherapists, anatomic pathologists, radiology and nuclear medicine specialists and specialised cancer nursing staff. Likewise, IOB offers psychological or psychiatric care to patients in need of it, advice from nutrition specialists and oriental medicine treatments such as acupuncture and hypnosis to treat anxiety and pain.
This multidisciplinary team makes it easier for patients to undergo all the tests and receive all the treatments they need in a coordinated way in the same place and in as little time as possible, without the need to travel and to manage visits to different specialists separately. The team is made up of the oncologists Dr. Javier Garcia del Muro, Dr. Fabricio Racca and Dr. Teresa Alonso.
