Gynaecological Cancer Unit
The Gynaecological Cancer Unit of the Oncological Institute (IOB) treats patients diagnosed with tumours that affect the female reproductive system and include endometrial cancer (also called uterine cancer), cervical cancer and ovarian cancer.
Many patients who come to the unit have been previously diagnosed by a gynaecologist, who refers them to IOB to be examined by a team specialised in the treatment of gynaecological cancers. Likewise, like other IOB units, the Gynaecological Cancer Unit offers a second opinion service to patients who are treated by specialists from other centres.
The patients treated at the Gynaecological Cancer Unit are treated by a multidisciplinary team consisting of oncologists, gynaecologists, surgeons, anatomic pathologists, specialists in radiology and nuclear medicine and specialised cancer nursing staff. Likewise, IOB offers psychological or psychiatric care to patients in need of it, advice from nutrition specialists and oriental medicine treatments such as acupuncture and hypnosis to treat anxiety and pain.
This multidisciplinary team makes it easier for patients to undergo all the tests and receive all the treatments they need in a coordinated way in the same place and in as little time as possible, without the need to travel and visit different specialists separately. The team comprises the oncologist Dr. Ana Oaknin, Dr. Fariñas and Dr. Eva Guerra.
